10 Tips for Great Oral Hygiene
Good oral hygiene correlates with good overall body and mind health. It is important to take care of your teeth and your mouth in general. When you think about it, our bodies have some amazing defense systems to keep bad things out. Our mouths are the largest opening into our bodies and therefore can pose a risk to our overall health. Here are 10 tips to having great oral hygiene.
- PROPER teeth brushing.
Brushing your teeth improperly can cause some serious damage. See our tips for properly brushing.
When we say floss we mean regularly not just before you come see us or your general practitioner (floss then too though!)
- No Tobacco
Just say no!
- Limit the following
- Get your calcium
Use these great foods and drinks for solid calcium intake:
- Orange juice (fortified)
- Visit your dentist (regularly)
Have regular check-ups and if you have gum issues see a specialist (we can recommend a great periodontist 🙂 )
- Use mouthwash
Use mouthwash WITH flossing and brushing your teeth NOT INSTEAD of brushing and flossing.
- Take care of tooth pain ASAP
Schedule an appointment if you have strange tooth or other mouth pain that persists.
- Take care of your whole mouth
Tooth problems can lead to diabetes, heart disease, systemic infections, an inability to eat or speak properly and other maladies – some life-threatening. Crooked or crowded teeth can contribute to gum disease that can eventually lead to tooth loss. Straight teeth are no longer just for looks. We love our patients, but it is better if you just take care of your teeth and gums and never need dental implants or the pinhole surgery!
- Clean your tongue
Try getting a tongue specific cleaner. It will work wonders for your breath and overall health!
